Startup Weekend Coming to Sioux Falls

October 21, 2013 — Sioux Falls, S.D. Lemonly, a local design company, is bringing Startup Weekend, a whirl of product and business creation to Sioux Falls, S.D. This is the event’s first time in South Dakota.

Attendees are invited to pitch their startup idea on Friday evening. Teams will work on the most popular ideas for the remainder of the weekend with the top three ideas receiving prizes to benefit their new company.

Startup Weekend provides an excellent networking opportunity for local entrepreneurs, investors, developers, and designers.

“If you’ve always thought, ‘I have an awesome idea for an app or I want to launch a website’ than Startup Weekend is the event for you. You’re guaranteed a weekend of excitement and learning, but you could leave with a new job or career,” said John Meyer, CEO and Co-Founder of Lemonly.

Over 45,000 people all over the world have participated in Startup Weekend, a non-profit organization based out of Seattle, Wash.

Past Startup Weekends have launched companies that go on to raise money and hire employees like Foodspotting, Zaarly, and LaunchRock. Many of the startups continue beyond the weekend, with almost 40 percent still in existence several months later.

The Sioux Falls event is part of the larger Global Startup Battle, with 200 plus events being held over two weekends. Global Entrepreneurship Week is the following week, November 18-24.

The event will be held at the SD Technology and Business Center on November 15-17. Tickets are now on sale for $60 and $30 for students.
