This event is a celebration of all things vexillological (the study of flags) & serves as a kickoff for the community competition to design a suitable flying banner for Sioux Falls. At the recent OTA14 event, guest speaker Roman Mars noted the conspicuous absence of a flag for our fine city. In the wake of this revelation, several civic-minded designers and creative organizations including AIGA, OTA & the Sioux Falls Design Center organized CESFBCSF (Committee to Establish a Suitable Flying Banner for the City of Sioux Falls) and committed to rectifying this injustice. Chaired by Hugh Weber and a committee including Molly O’Conner, Joe Schaeffer, Alix Suckstorf, and Marisa TenBrink, CESFBCSF is calling for all creatives and community champions from 3 to 103 years old to submit their designs for a suitable Sioux Falls flag. After the deadline of July 15, a panel of judges will narrow entries to a final group utilizing the North American Vexillological Associations five basic principles of flag design: Simplicity, Symbolism, Color, Attractiveness, and Distinctiveness. They will be shared with the community in an August gallery showing and one will be declared a suitable flying banner for the City of Sioux Falls.

Tickets for this events are FREE, but please RSVP here. A huge thank you to OTA for making this possible!
